School Magazine Analysis

Fusion Magazine Analysis

Front Page
Images:
The picture of the shouting person is very eye-catching. It looks very artistic and the filter makes it look raw and expresses rage because the filter reminds me of propaganda pictures used by Russians and posters of Cha Guevara, which tend to give off a more serious and angry look in itself. There is however an absence of a logo in it, apart from the title. It doesn’t even include a logo in the contents page either. It looks more professionally done but for a school magazine it does not seem appropriate. Nonetheless, still quite good.
Text:
The text and the fonts in the front cover art highly compliment the theme of anger or rage, but with more of a trendy rage feel. The repetition of words next to the screaming face also attributes this. Yellow also compliments the red in order to make it stand out a bit more. The information and the yellow text being shouted also does a good job of not dominating the space, it informs you but doesn’t draw to much attention away from the main picture. On a school magazine this would be very helpful, making it so that you’re informed but at the same time have a big centrepiece.

Contents
Images:
There aren’t any photos on this page, but there is an artistic drawing of a cassette excreting some sort of pink rainbow-esque liquid. This is very eye-catching and very “artsy-fartsy” so it’s again, good for it’s type of magazine. For a school magazine, a page without a photo seems a bit odd, considering that it will be entirely about happenings within the school. Image is good, lack of photos isn’t.
Text:
The contents page seems a bit bland, but I don’t blame this entirely on the text. It has a plain white background with colourful text, it gives it a more juvenile feel, rather than that of a professional magazine. This however is perfect for a school magazine. It executes this well as far as school magazines are concerned. The other fault with this is that with it being a white background it doesn’t in any way suit the front cover. The front cover is “in your face” and colourful, then the next page you see is just a plain white background? BOOOORING!

Conclusion:
This magazine has an opposites attract feel to it. Everything this magazine does wrong would suit a school magazine perfectly and everything it does right it does right in the sense that it makes it inappropriate for any other genre of magazine. Text styles are good but it has lack of photos and colour where colour is due. Very average magazine.
